The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Tournament of Champions is currently taking place, and Day 2 action is going to be held on May 23rd. There will be updates coming ahead of the final day on May 24th, but it has already been a terrific tournament.
Heading into Day 2, it was Jim Collopy that was in the chip lead, and he actually had a sizeable advantage over the rest of the field. Collopy came into the second day of action with 415,000 chips, and it was Cooper Feltham in second place with 297,000.
There were 559 players that were signed up to compete in the Tournament of Champions, but the field had already been shrunk to just 104 players before Day 2 action started. Eventually, there will be just nine players that will be playing at the Final Table.
It was a full day of poker action during the opening of the WSOP Tournament of Champions, and there were 10, 60-minute shifts scheduled for Day 2. Those poker players can actually get the Day 2 action done quicker as it will end when the final table is set.
A Loaded Field
There are going to be hundreds of WSOP tournaments over the next few months, and most of those are going to have buy-ins that the players will have to pay. That was not the case for the Tournament of Champions as it was a freeroll in order to get entered.
Players had to have won a WSOP ring or bracelet up to this point in order to qualify, and that includes those online tournament. Winners from the WSOP Europe circuit were also invited to play, but not everyone made the trip to the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles.
The prize pool is set at $1 million for this tournament, but most of that money is going to go to the player that comes away with a win. Not only was this a field full of past champions, but there were also players that have had success on the Main Event in the past.
Ian Steinman has won seven bracelets on the WSOP Tour, and he is currently in the top-10 in the chip count as well. Everyone will be trying to track down Collopy, but there is still plenty of time to make that happen.
Great Day 1 Action
All of the action during this tournament is going to be live streamed, and fans were treated to some great poker action during Day 1. Jessica Vierling was back at the Commerce Casino and ready to compete, one day after winning the WSOP Commerce Main Event.
Daniel Weinman won the WSOP Main Event a year ago, and he qualified for this tournament by already picking up a win earlier this year. There were some featured tables as well, and most of those were filled with past champions.
Someone is going to walk away with a huge chunk of money on May 24th, and that will put that player on a path to more WSOP success.
