Las Vegas 2014 Summer Tournament Season Guide

Summer is the time for major tournaments in Las Vegas.  The series range from the nine-event Orleans Open to the massive schedules offered by the World Series of Poker and Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza.

Venetian Deep Stacks ExtravaganzadseIII

The Venetian Deep Stacks Extravaganza will return on May 22 and run through July 15.  Most days will offer two events.  The noon tournament is always No Limit Texas Hold’em with buy-ins ranging between $300 and $5000.  Most large buy-ins offer a guaranteed prize pool.

The evening events start at either 5pm or 6pm.  Most tournaments are No Limit Texas Hold’em, although there are a few Pot Limit Omaha and Fixed Limit Omaha High/Low events.  Most evening buy-ins are in the $300 to $600 range.

Orleans Open

The Orleans Open is set for May 24 through June 1.  There are five No Limit Hold’em, two Omaha High/Low, one ROSE mixed fame and one Pot Limit Omaha event.  The buy-ins are $225-$330, with the exception of the main event, where the buy-in is $540.  These are great events to be used as warm-ups for the World Series of Poker and other larger series.  Hat tip to SpaceyFCB for finding this schedule as it is not yet published on the Orleans website.  It is published in this helpful spreadsheet.

World Series of Poker

The World Series of Poker will be played at Rio and starts on May 27 with the $500 Casino Employees event.  There are a total of 65 bracelet events.  Tournaments open to the public start at $1,000.  The largest is the $1 million One Drop.  In addition to No Limit Hold’em, players will find Fixed Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha, Fixed Limit Omaha High/Low, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud High/Low, Razz, 2-7 Triple Draw and mixed games.

There are also many smaller tournaments available at Rio during the WSOP.  Large cash games also run.  Satellites to all events will also be spread.  Players in Nevada may want to check out WSOP.com to see what satellites will be run by the regulated online poker site.  Cash transactions for the online poker room are expected to be available at Rio by the time the WSOP begins.

Bellagio Cup

The Bellagio Cup will offer two events.  There will be a $10,300 NLHE tournament on July 10 and a $5,180 tournament on July 13.  Bellagio will also host $10,200 NLHE tournaments on May 29, June 1, June 4, June 11, June 24, and June 27.  All tournaments start at noon.

Golden Nugget Grand Series of Poker

The Golden Nugget will spread 80 events in its Grand Series of Poker.  The series starts on June 4.  Most tournaments have a buy-in of $125 or $230.  There is also a $10 dealer tip that is listed as optional, however, not buying it will put a player at a disadvantage.

There are two tournaments most days.  One event is always No Limit Texas Hold’em.  The second event is usually not NLHE.  These side events include Fixed Limit Omaha High/Low, Pot Limit Omaha High/Low, HORSE, Big Omaha8, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud High/Low, and mixed games.
