The Golden Nugget in Biloxi, Mississippi held its grand opening today for its new casino and 720-room hotel. The Golden Nugget Biloxi was formerly the Isle of Capri. This sale of one of the oldest casino properties in Biloxi was announced in March 2012. The sale closed for an estimated $45 million. The casino and hotel were both extensively renovated over the past year at a cost of $100 million.
The Isle of Capri was last remodeled in 2005 after its casino boat was completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The resort’s hotel suffered extensive damaged. The casino was moved into the first floor of the hotel after Mississippi law changed to allow Gulf Coast casino floors to be located as far as 800 feet from the water. It was the third Gulf Coast casino to reopen after the storm in December 2005.
Golden Nugget Biloxi has opened two restaurants owned by Landry’s, its parent company. Morton’s Steakhouse and Lillie’s went live with the grand opening. There are future plans for other restaurants on the property.
The casino offers 29 table games including blackjack, craps, roulette, Three Card Poker, Mini Baccarat, Mississippi Stud and PaiGow Poker. There is also a nine table poker room where players earn $2 an hour in comps while playing cash games. There is also a wide selection of slots and video poker.
Landry’s also owns Golden Nugget casino properties in Atlantic City, Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada.
