According to a recent report by PokerNews, poker pro Phil Ivey has filed a lawsuit against the Crockfords Casino located in London. Ivey reportedly won $12.1 million while visiting the casino back in 2012 and was never given his cash. Now the pro has taken legal action with the London High Court.
Ivey filed the lawsuit today and claims the casino did not pay him the $12.1 million which is rightfully won in August of last year while playing Punto Banco. The pro reportedly tried working with the casino since that time but negotiations failed and the pro is now taking legal action.
When Ivey earned the massive win, it was reported instantly in the Daily Mail. In the article, Ivey was reported to have played some serious high stakes Punto Banco action, with bets reaching £50,000 a hand. Ivey ended up increasing the stakes to £150,000 at the permission of the casino and earned a large payout by the end of the night. On a winning high, the pro came back to Crockfords the very next night and ended up winning yet again for a total of $12.1 million.
Ivey commented to PokerNews about the suit by stating:
“I am deeply saddened that Crockfords has left me no alternative but to proceed with legal action, following its decision to withhold my winnings. I have much respect for Gentings, which has made this a very difficult decision for me.
“Over the years I have won and lost substantial sums at Crockfords and I have always honoured my commitments. At the time, I was given a receipt for my winnings but Crockfords subsequently withheld payment. I, therefore, feel I have no alternative but to take legal action.”
It will be interesting to see how this case pans out. We will continue to follow the details and report any new findings as they happen!
