With the recent auction of the Atlantic Club in Atlantic City, around 1,600 employees will be left without employment come January 13th. Caesars Entertainment and Tropicana Entertainment now have the rights to the property and have decided to strip the struggling casino for parts and not use the building in its current state. This will leave many without a job and while the Atlantic Club is trying to help employees find work, other casinos are stepping in as well.
Maryland Live is a new casino located in the state of, you guessed it, Maryland. The casino will be hosting a job fair in Atlantic City to hire new employees, which will be a big help to those who will soon be out of employment. Rob Norton is the Maryland Live President and General Manager who spoke with The Associated Press on the upcoming job fair.
Norton stated that the closing of the Atlantic Club is unfortunate and will impact many lives. Norton went on to state that Maryland Live has the opportunity to ‘offset some of the job losses’ as the facility is currently in need of employees due to growth of the casino. Norton feels as though the closing of the casino will be an opportunity for Maryland Live to target a pool of already talented candidates in the industry that are located in the same region geographically.
According to the report at the AP, the Maryland casino is hoping to fill hundreds of job openings. This would include placement for several positions including table gaming. Experienced dealers will only need state licensing to be able to begin work.
The job fairs will take place on Monday and Tuesday at the Atlantic Club ballroom. Maryland Live will be hosting a job fair on Wednesday and Thursday at the Atlantic City Sheraton.
