At the start of 2020, the poker industry had a lot to look forward to. It all seemed as this year was going to be a good one for poker lovers. One of the things they looked forward to was the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) which was supposed to begin its 11th season.
The tour started with three stops, but then everything had to be postponed when the coronavirus pandemic was proclaimed by the World Health Organization. The majority of poker tournaments were held in an online format, and some of them, such as MSPT, had to be postponed for an indefinite period.
The good news finally kicked in, as it is officially returning on August 28, at least for one stop. The next tour will stop in Grand Falls Casino and will feature a $1,100 buy-in Main Event with $150,000 in guaranteed prizes. The casino is located close to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The event will require players to be at least 21 years old in order to take part in the tournament, and it is officially the first mid-major US tournament in almost six months. In other words, live poker player can finally have something to look forward to, even if it’s only for two days.
Details About the Main Event
The Main Event will require the buy-in price of $1,100 and it will have two starting flights – Day 1A and Day 1B. The first one will start at 3 pm on Friday, and the second at the same time on Saturday. During both days, there will be a total of 15 levels, and the players who survive their respective Day 1s will have an opportunity to return to the felt one more time on August 30 and play for the final prize.
The event will, therefore, continue on Sunday, August 30, on 11 am. All players who want to take part in this MSPT stop will have to wear face masks while inside the poker room.
Moreover, the officials want to make sure that all health and safety protocols are active, so they have plans to make the use of the event center that is also part of the Grand Falls Casino. That way, they’ll have an opportunity to space out tables and ensure maximum physical distancing between players.
The MSPT visit to Grand Falls Casino was in September 2019, when Jesse Rockowitz managed to win $45,425 by topping the 175-entry Main Event. Before that, Ryan Skluzak had an opportunity to make the same achievement, when he won $54,427 in a 226-entry event.
The last recorded stop by MSPT was also at Grand Falls Casino, but it was a Regional Event that required the buy-in of $350. Swadeep Mishra was the one to win it, receiving a total of $23,467 as the main prize.
Apart from the Main Event, MSPT will offer several other events on August 28, with plenty of opportunities to make some cash.
