It’s a celebration in Connecticut for every bettor that wants to wager on sports from their internet devices and play casino games. Starting yesterday, residents in Connecticut can place a wager online and play casino games. However, poker fans have to wait a little longer as there are no actual game details.
Overview of the Soft Launch Period
The Department of Consumer Protection in Connecticut announced a soft launch starting Tuesday last week for seven days. The trial period began with offering casino gaming and sports betting for a few hours, graduating to 24 hours by Saturday, October 16.
Mohegan Tribe, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, and Connecticut Lottery Corporation, alongside their respective partners, jumped into the trial immediately. Connecticut Lottery Corporation partnered with Rush Street Interactive registered 750 online players to offer online sports betting only.
The three gaming operators with their partners had a successful trial period. No operator reported any problem during the test period, leading to the governor’s remarks on Monday.
Governor Lamont said it was an exciting time for the tribals, partners, and the state. He noted that Connecticut had become a leader in the gaming economy that goes back in years. He also said the legacy would continue with the new online gaming options for all adult residents.
Lamont also announced that full online gaming would take effect on Tuesday at 6 am. This meant that all online platforms were not restricted to the number of signups they would take.
The Trial Was a Success
Hartford Courant reported that Connecticut lottery corporation, in partnership with PlaySugarHouse sportsbook, got over $60,000 in sports wager in the first two days. The CEO of the corporation, Greg Smith, noted his company had a good system test. The CEO was speaking during a meeting with the Lottery’s board of directors on Thursday last week.
Adding to the CEO’s comments, the Lottery’s board chairman said everything the corporation hoped was happening smoothly. Robert Simmelkjaer II reported that players had created accounts, deposited, and placed bets without any shortcoming.
The corporation reported having received more than 750 players noting it had turned away over 2000. But, all these players can now create an account as the trial period limiting the corporation from registering more than 750 players no longer applies.
At the moment, Connecticut Lottery Corporation is still setting up ten brick-and-mortar betting platforms. These kiosks were permitted in legislation in May allowing online casino gaming, poker, and sports wagering.
On the other hand, FanDuel and DraftKings did not have any problems during the soft launch. Meanwhile, the two are in the process of completing the construction of permanent sportsbooks at their respective casino properties. The two are expected to complete the process before the end of this winter.
At the moment, the DraftKings sportsbook at Foxwood is at Ultimate Race Book in Rainmaker Casino. There are other betting shops across the resort. FanDuel sportsbook at Mohegan Sun is at the Bow & Arrow Sports Bar.
What About Online Poker?
Connecticut Lottery Corporation is not allowed to offer poker. But, the other two casinos, through their partners, can.
FanDuel is owned by Flutter, which has several poker platforms, including PokerStars. Thus, FanDuel can soon offer online poker through PokerStars branded as Mohegan Sun. Unfortunately, DraftKings does not offer poker.
With a small population of 3.6 million, brands might not be interested in entering the market. However, if the state can join an interstate poker compact, brands will stream in.
