A casino and resorts operator hoping to return to Louisiana through a $325 million resort in La. has sent some representatives to help the state bounce back from Hurricane Ida’s damages. The hurricane is said to have caused damages worth over $50 billion in the coastal line of Louisiana.
Category 4 is deemed responsible for 71 deaths, with 14 being in Louisiana. Its massive destruction makes Hurricane Ida one of the six most destructive hurricanes in the Atlantic.
The California-based company helped in distributing meals among Louisianians at two relief locations in St. Tammany Parish. Peninsula Pacific Entertainment sent several representatives to help in relieving the coastal region.
Peninsula Pacific Entertainment once owned a casino in Louisiana at Bossier City called DiamondJacks Casino. However, the company had to permanently close the casino due to economic reasons caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Today, Peninsula Pacific has casinos in Virginia, Iowa, New York and is hoping to return to Louisiana, at a different location from the previous.
The casino company is in a quest to have their Bossier City operating license moved to Slidell. The company finds Slidell a more attractive market where it will excel.
Meanwhile, Peninsula Pacific has to wait until the Parish voters decide the casino’s fate in an election scheduled for November 13, 2021. Peninsula is campaigning for its new casino, labeled Camelia Bay.
How Slidell Will Benefit
Lending a hand in relieving the damages caused by Hurricane Ida is not the only thing peninsula pacific is willing to do. If residents realize the benefits of allowing the company into the city, Peninsula Pacific promises to create 1000 permanent jobs.
Also, the casino company will spend around $30 million to build a community athletic center on the Lakeshore Marina next to the Camelia Bay resort. In line with the damages caused by Hurricane Ida, Peninsula has also promised to contribute $5 million to build a ring levee for the town.
Peninsula Pacific Is a Community Partner
Several groups are against a casino coming to Slidell, giving varied reasons. One of these groups is a religious organization refusing to support building a casino on moral grounds. Some residents believe bringing a casino in the area will increase the crime rate, gambling addiction, financial hardship, and generally degrade the quality of life.
Yet, the casino company has proved to be an advantage to the community. Despite being based over 1,700 miles from the town, Peninsula sent representatives to help recover from Hurricane Ida. This showed that the Peninsula could be counted on in desperate times.
Peninsula reported to have given thousands of liters of water, 33,000 meals, and ice to people affected by Ida. The casino company was based at relief sites in Mandeville, where they joined hands with the Louisiana Coastal Relief & Recovery team. The company also posted on its website that it would continue helping and improving areas where it operated its business.
Peninsula Pacific plans to improve a community through its casinos which create jobs for residents. It also pays taxes and encourages others to share with the community.
The company also stated it had over 3,300 employees in casinos across the country. It hopes to be of significance to various communities.
