The Plaza and Las Vegas Club made several changes to its Royal Rewards players club this week. The biggest change was the removal of bonus free play when making a royal flush on select machines. The reward started out at 10% of the royal flush payout for players at the Jack tier. Players in the top Ace tier received a 100 percent match in free play on a royal flush up to $1,000.
All of this is now a thing of the past.
Most of the machines with favorable pay tables were excluded from the promotion. A majority of the qualifying video poker machines returned less than 98 percent.
Dropping the royal flush bonus allowed for a major improvement. Most of the pay tables on video poker machines at Plaza are now 99 percent and higher. Another bonus is that players cards now work on all of these Plaza machines. Points also now earn at the full rate on most machines at Las Vegas Club.
Free play may not be redeemed on these games, but points are earned on play at the standard rate of one point for every $3 in coin-in. Slots award one point for every $1 in action. Comps are also earned based on this action.
Video poker players are awarded .13 percent of the amount wagered when converting points. Slot players receive .4 percent. Players in the Jack and Queen tier can convert points into free play. King and Ace players receive a voucher that may be turned into cash at the cashier cage. There is a $5 minimum when converting points.
Royal Rewards recently created a website for players to view offers. It is located at MyRoyalRewards.com.
Great Move by Plaza
While there will be a few high rollers that will not be happy with this change, it is a huge plus for a vast majority of player. Higher immediate returns lower the variance and keep players in the game longer. That is better for player retention. In my opinion, this is a great decision by Plaza management.
