Day 4 at the Borgata Poker Classic started with only 27 players remaining. For most of these players the $1,407,109 first-place prize was on their minds. To get that first-place prize, they would have to make it to the final six and the televised WPT final table.
Unlike yesterdays play within the first level 5 players were sent to the rail and before long the tournament with down to the final two tables. The order of elimination to the final table were:
27. David Inselberg – $25,573
26. John Cox – $25,573
25. Joe DiMartino – $25,573
24. John Racener – $25,573
23. Jesse Martin – $25,573
22. Eric Buchman – $25,573
21. Adam Lippert – $25,573
20. Gordon Wilcox – $25,573
19. Daniel Shiff – $25,573
18. Jared Hamby – $31,966
17. Vadim Trincher – $31,966
16. David Tran – $31,966
15. Eric Siegel – $46,270
14. Onofrio Reina – $46,270
13. Bob Hwang – $46,270
12. John McEwen – $63,932
11. John Roveto – $63,932
After John Roveto busted the final table was set, and they were all chasing David Tran who had accumulated a monster chip stack of over 3.5 million.
The 2008 Borgata Winter open final table would include:
David “Big Dragon” Tran – 3,741,000
Justin Bonomo – 2,940,000
Gavin Griffin – 2,203,000
Noah “fourUhaters” Schwartz – 1,588,000
Thomas Hare – 1,120,000
Scott Blackman – 1,068,000
Seat 5 – Ervin Prifti – 947,000
Lee Watkinson – 854,000
Shane LaBounty – 471,000
Men “The Master” Nguyen – 149,000
Now as these 10 poker players sit at the final table, there was still one plateau left to reach and that would be to decide who would be sitting as the final six for the televised final table.
The final table would play for about an hour before the first player would be sent to the rail. Men “The Master” Nguyen got all his money in pre-flop with AK but was unfortunate enough to run into Noah Schwartz and his pocket jacks. Noah’s jacks held and “The Master” ended a great run which has included back to back WPT final table appearances and was sent home in tenth earning $63,932.
It was Thomas Hare who provided the next elimination. As was custom Hare minimum raised to open the pot and Scott Blackman came over the top for about half his stack. Hare pushed back by going all-in and Blackman called showing pocket tens, this time Hare had the AK. Unlike Men though, Hare’s AK held up when the board brought two more kings and Blackman was sent home in ninth taking $98,359 with him.
Justin Bonomo who was crippled earlier by Thomas Hare, now took his turn with AK. He was called by Gavin Griffin, with pocket queens and the race was on. Bonomo never caught up though and was eliminated in eighth place earning him $135,423.
Now there was just one to go to set the televised final table. This was decided when Shane LaBounty went all in short stacked with pocket tens. He was called by David Tran and pocket queens. The queens held up and LaBounty just missed the televised final table finishing in seventh and getting $184,421.
As play ended for the day. It seemed the televised final table will have two major contenders. Gavin Griffin and David Tran, both will enter the final day with over 5 million in chips and almost a 2 to 1 chip lead over third-place.
