The Governing Council of the Poker Hall of Fame has announced that Tom “durrrr†Dwan has been removed from the list of nominees for the Poker Hall of Fame. Dwan was part of the list along with eight other poker pros but now will no longer but up for nomination.
The Governing Council released a statement which read: “With all due respect to Mr. Dwan, one of the game’s most exciting young players, he does not currently meet the criteria for Hall of Fame selection. We wish him well and expect he will again be considered once he has ‘stood the test of time’. “
Players who are eligible for voting consideration must meet several criteria. Players must have played poker against acknowledged competition, high stakes, consistently well-while gaining the respect of peers and stood the test of time. For non-player nominees, they must have contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.
Since Dwan is now out of the running for consideration, those left are: Barry Greenstein, Dan Harrington, Phil Ivey, Tom McEvoy, Erik Seidel, Mike Sexton, Men Nguyen and Daniel Negreanu. The official selections for the 2009 Poker Hall of Fame will be announced during a special ceremony which will take place on November 7th. This event will take place during a dinner break of the 2009 WSOP Main Event Final Table.
The decision on who will be named at the special ceremony will be up to how the fifteen member media panel votes as well as the fifteen living Hall of Fame members. Each voter can vote for up to three candidates and each player that receives at least 75% of yes votes will be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.
