This November, voters in the state of New Jersey will be able to decide if they would like to see casinos added to the northern portion of the state, ending the monopoly of casino gaming in Atlantic City. A referendum will be included on the ballot that proposes two casinos to be constructed in the northern region. Of course there are those who are for and against the addition of casinos in an area other than Atlantic City. One group in opposition of the referendum is Trenton’s Bad Bet. As the November ballot draws near, the group has now released new advertising campaigns to try and point voters to vote No on the referendum.
Trenton’s Bad Bet is based in Newark and are continuing their fight against the proposed casinos. Four new television and radio advertisements have been created that speak of the broken promises and mismanagement of the gaming expansion in the state as well as a negative economic impact. Two radio ads are set to run in Atlantic City and Trenton beginning this week and encourages voters to choose No on the ballot.
With the group pushing for the referendum not to pass, a recent poll shows that voters may already be on their side. Stockton University recently conducted a poll run by William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy which found that voters are opposed to the casinos being put in North Jersey. The poll was just released late last week and showed that as many as 68% are opposed to the plan and 27% are in support of casinos outside Atlantic City. This is not the first poll to show that residents are not in favor of the plan.
Trenton’s Bad Bet now has just a few weeks to continue their efforts to try and push for the referendum to be opposed. It will be interesting to see how the vote takes shape as many feel this is a great way to help Atlantic City as the gambling town has been struggling for years. Others, see the new casinos as a way to economically hurt the city even further. If the vote goes according to the many studies completed on the subject, there will be no casinos in the northern region as the majority of residents seem to be opposed.
