Local television stations in Los Angeles reported that an armored truck guard was injured in a shootout on Thursday outside Larry Flynt’s Hustler Casino in Gardena. He is likely to survive despite being in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
Another guard was also shot and sustained minor injuries. Local police responded fast. Christopher Cuff, Gardena police lieutenant, said that the guards were shot while leaving the truck in an ambush by several robbers.
The officer added that the robbers stole an unknown sum of money before fleeing the area. One witness stated that they fired about 12 shots, while Alvin Spence, another witness, informed KTLA that he had to flee the scene.
He added that the shots shocked him, and he didn’t want to spend more time in the casino. KABC stated in one report that at least three robbers raided the casino. But unverified reports claimed that one suspect was wounded as the guards fired back at them.
KCBS reported that the shooting didn’t take place in the casino, but the casino evacuated its clients and staff. Firefighters and the police quickly created a perimeter around the crime scene, according to a KTLA report.
More Details About the Officers’ Response
Firefighters and local police arrived at Hustler Casino before 10:30 am PT. The officers later went to a building at the Vermont Avenue and 155th Street intersection to catch one suspect. KABC reported that the suspect was at the Moose Lodge as an armored vehicle, and police SUVs were seen at the scene.
No other suspect was apprehended as of 2:00 pm PT. Even so, the police recovered a vehicle that they suspected the suspects used to flee the casino. They hadn’t given descriptions of the robbers by Thursday midday.
Links to Larry Flynt
Larry Flynt owned Hustler Casino through El Dorado Enterprises before his demise. The gaming venue operates 24/1 and has a wide array of table games, including blackjack, pai gow poker, three card poker, and Texas Hold’em. Some regular players often describe it as a poker and card room.
Larry Flynt’s Lucky Lady Casino is part of the conglomerate. The Los Angeles Times reported in 2019 that 11 players got injured when part of the casino collapsed. Yet, it was worth about $500 million.
The Conglomerate’s Lawsuit
Jimmy Flynt, Flynt’s younger brother, sued his widow in February 2022 for half of Hustler casino and porn conglomerate. Still, he runs Hustler Magazine and two card rooms around the LA region.
The Magazine’s owner said that he was wrongfully omitted in his elder brother’s will as he left the enterprise to Elisabeth Flynt, his fifth wife, through the Larry Flynt Revocable Trust. Jimmy Flynt said that he was loyal to his brother and helped him build the enterprise, thus helping it grow tremendously.
The two brothers fell out in 2009 as Larry removed Jimmy as a beneficiary. They had an intense legal battle that lasted for six years.

The poker room got in the headlines early this week after canceling an ongoing $250,000 guarantee poker event. It stated that unexpected circumstances prompted it to make that decision, and it promised to refund all players.
