A field of 248 players registered to compete in the Main Event of the World Series of Poker Circuit Horseshoe Chicago. The tournament had a $5,200 buy-in and it was twenty two year old Dan Livingston who took down the first place prize of $291,749.
Livingston usually plays at the Horseshoe Casino at the low to middle limit buy-in tournaments. He earned his way into the WSOP Circuit event while playing at the Horseshoe. A special promotion was taking place at the poker room where four Main Event seats were given away daily. Each day one poker table would be randomly selected with the player at the table with the highest card would earn an entry into the event. this is what happened to Livingston about two weeks ago.
Livingston commented that he finally realized that he could win the tournament once he was sitting at the final table. He commented: “When we got to the final table, I had about 900,000 in chips. Then, I won a few early pots and I was up to 2,000,000. Then I said to myself, ‘wow, I might win thisâ€â€I have about a fourth of the chips in play. I have a really good chance.’ And, I did it.â€Â
Livingston beat Tom Floros in heads up play to earn the win. Floros also earned his seat in the same random giveaway as Livingston. This win has given Livingston a boost of confidence and he may now consider a poker career. “This win was a big confidence booster,” he said. “It’s going to make me consider giving poker a shot. I am going to see if I can play for a living.”
