Just two days ago, it was announced by the state of Delaware that over a dozen companies have now applied to obtain an online gaming license in the state. The Delaware Lottery will be operating the online gaming options in the state and online poker and casino gaming are expected to be launched by mid 2013. So, it is only natural that companies begin requesting to begin the licensing process.
Rebecca Goldsmith, the Lottery Assistant Director in Delaware, was the one to announce that a total of fourteen different companies have now applied to gain a license in the state. Companies who are interested in gaining a license in the state must apply with the Lottery administrators to begin the process.
Several of the companies to apply for a license are familiar in the gaming industry including PokerStars and 888 Holdings PLC. PokerStars is hoping to be able to reenter the US market after they were forced to leave in 2011 after the Black Friday incident. PokerStars is not only working to gain entry in Delaware but also New Jersey.
888 Holdings PLC is also a big name in the gaming industry. The leading company behind the 888 brand would like to reenter the US gaming market as well. The company provided online gaming opportunities in the United States in the past but left back in 2006 when the UIGEA was passed. Other names included in the list of companies are:
SHFL Entertainment
International Game Technology
Amaya Gaming
Bally Technologies
Stan James PLC
Continent 8 Technologies
The state of Delaware continues to move forward with the online gaming process. It will be interesting to see who the first companies are to gain a license in the state as well as watch as the online gambling race really starts to heat up. Much like Nevada and New Jersey, the state is looking to cash in on hundreds of millions of dollars that intrastate gambling is expected to garner over the next 5 to 1o years alone.
