Earlier this week, the governor of Florida signed a bill into law which banned casino gaming options that were recently available at establishments across the state. The new bill does not allow for ‘adult game arcades’ or ‘internet cafes’ and all businesses were expected to adhere to this new law. However, one establishment near LaBelle has yet to close.
Luxxor 777 is an arcade room located just outside of LaBelle. The game room was still open as of today and according to recent reports, the owner of the establishment stated she was aware of the new law but stated that no one told her she had to close.
The woman spoke with the Southwest Florida BlogSpot and stated how her establishment works. Players come in and purchase a pin code for a machine which costs as low as $10. Players who purchase a pin code also get $5 in free play with their first payment. Players then earn points for winning and once the points reach $25 the player will be able to earn cash.
The area of LaBelle is known for its share of gambling establishments. The first option for adults was the Lion’s Den Game Arcade which was open for several years until closing on March 30th of this year. The second establishment to open was called the Saddle Up Arcade and this option is still open but does not pay out prizes, just food items.
The owner of the establishment stated that he used to give away gift cards to winning players from certain retailers like Walmart, Winn-Dixie and Ace Hardware but now he cannot give anything away. Players are still allowed to play the games for fun and the cost for each game is up to $0.25 per game.
The Saddle Up establishment has placed a sign on the outside of their building which states they are not allowed to give away the gift cards anymore but they will offer complimentary food and snacks to players.
Many gaming and bingo operators are not happy with the new bill that was just signed into law this week. One group is planning on suing to be able to continue to offer the gambling options they provide. The new bill was passed by the Florida Senate on the 4th of this month by a vote of 36 to 4 and Governor Rick Scott signed the bill into law on April 10th with an immediate effect in the state.
