For a second time, the Nevada Gaming Policy Committee has met to discuss the daily fantasy sports industry. On Tuesday, the committee met and discussed particular matters of DFS, including the legislation created by DraftKings and FanDuel to legalize the activity in the state.
For the second meeting, officials were discussing the legislative proposal created by the two DFS sites. The committee consists of members who are involved in the casino industry, regulators of gaming as well as government officials. Members of the committee did not seem too thrilled with the legislation, as the proposal does not offer much by way of revenues for the state as well as providing quality gaming regulations.
According to LegalSportsReport, members of the committee were dismayed that the operators did not come to the committee or gaming regulators before proposing the draft legislation. The committee did show support in working with the daily fantasy sports industry to create a proposal that members could get behind.
During the meeting, it seemed the majority felt that the regulatory framework currently in place in the state for gaming would be suitable for the DFS industry as well. The framework could be changed to meet the DFS need, making it easier for operators to offer services. It seemed everyone wanted to find a way to see DFS be offered in the state in some manner.
Sandoval has stated that the committee should meet again before the deadline of September 30th to provide a proposal in regards to what Nevada should do with daily fantasy sports. For now, we know that there is much to be done before DFS will be legally functioning within the state of Nevada.
It will be interesting to see if the legislation proposed by operators will be tweaked and considered by lawmakers or if new legislation will be created in the coming days or weeks as the deadline approaches.
