Ultimate Poker came out of the gates as the first online poker room available in the state of Nevada and despite its software issues, the site itself has seen great results in terms of player volume. There are more options for online poker coming to the state of Nevada and the Governor of the state has recently announced that Nevada is looking into deals with other states that would expand the field of competitors.
Brian Sandoval, the Governor of Nevada, spoke with the Las Vegas Review-Journal last week and stated the he has already spoken with other state Governors to be able to expand the pool of players to these other states.
Sandoval stated he has introduced the concept of compacting to the other states and the talks are in the early stages. Because Nevada has the infrastructure and the other states have players the concept could work easily.
With that being said, Texas seems to be on the very top of the priority list when it comes to an expansion partner. This state is considered a top choice to work with Nevada as they can provide a large player pool almost instantly, with the Lone Star State being home to 26,000,000 people as of the 2012 census.
While the state of Texas does not currently offers online gambling options, a new bill was recently introduced that should be able to assist its chances of changing that. The Poker Gaming Act of 2013 is in the works and is opened to ‘social poker rooms’ and they have also introduced internet poker language into the bill as well.
Delaware and New Jersey also already have legislation and would be a great choice for Nevada to work with. And with other states opening up to the idea, the state may soon find a great selection of players to add to an extended player pool that would allow for interstate poker within the next year.
