The 2007 Card Player Poker Player of the Year (POY) has been clinched an this years title will go to David “The Dragon” Pham. Pham locked up the title in a win at the WPT 5 Diamond World Poker Classic NL Holdem Event 8 tournament.
The POY was started in 1997 and goes to the poker player who has had the best yearly tournament results. Card Player Media COO Barry Shulman explains, “The POY point system is based on poker tournament finishes throughout the year and is a benchmark used throughout the poker industry to measure accomplishments on the felt. We at Card Player Media would like to congratulate David Pham for his exceptional accomplishment.”
This award is the oldest poker tournament ranking system and past winners include Daniel Negreanu, Michael Mizrachi, Men “The Master” Nguyen and T.J. Cloutier. This is the second win for David Pham who also won the title in 2000. Only Men Nguyen and T.J. Cloutier have multiple titles with four and two respectively.
“The Dragon†took the over all lead in August and never relinquished the spot for the rest of 2007. He finished with a total of 6,562 points with J.C. Tran only 814 points behind.
David’s 2007 included 18 in the money finishes, 11 final tables and 4 events won. His biggest was possibly the $5,000 heads-up event at the Mirage Poker Showdown. His over all earnings were more than $1.8 million.

4. Scott Clements – 5,138 points
