Sean Perry is having a good 2021. He recently scooped the 2021 Venetian High Roller crown during the Memorial Day weekend and cashed $365,500. This was the ninth time he reached the final table this year and the second time he secured his second title.
The 23-year-old pro player was among 42 other players who entered the Venetian High Roller with a buy-in of $25,000. With his win, he now has a total of $1,693,618 earnings from live tournaments this year.
Sean’s incredible win puts him among contenders in the Card Player’s Player of the Year Event. His Venetian win gave him 420 points which were added to his annual total, earning him fourth place in the 2021 POY race standings by Global Poker.
The Venetian High Roller No-Limit Hold ’em was one of the three high stake matches of the PokerGO Tour season. Perry’s win added 219 rankings points to this year’s points, a number high enough for Perry to retain the second-place spot on the PokerGO Tour leaderboard.
How the Event Rolled Out
The Memorial Day event featured some world-known poker players, including Daniel Negreanu and Sam Soverel. This 43-entry field had a prize pool of $1,075,000, which was paid to seven top finishers.
Unfortunately, Negreanu was not among those who cashed in. He was eliminated a few steps prior and ended up knocking up a segment of a plexiglass barrier at the table. However, he confirmed about knocking down the plexiglass by commenting about the issue on his Twitter account.
Things became interesting when a three-way all-in came up. Sean Winter, Cary Katz, and Soverel had pocket pairs of QQ, 1010, and JJ, respectively. Soverel earned a double knockout eliminating Winter at the seventh spot with $43,000 and Katz at sixth with $64,500.
Chris Brewer participated in all three high roller events at Venetian. His last play was at this event, where he finished fifth with $86,000, creating earnings of $193,600 over the weekend.
Ali Imsirovic’s plans to eliminate Klein were futile. He got all-in with JJ against Klein’s K10, but a pair of tens came up, earning Klein the lead.
Ali earned his 11th player of the year qualified final table finish of 2021. Alongside this, he cashed in $118,250 and earned 210 players of the year points, which helped him maintain his third-place ranking in the POY race slated for later this year. With the weekend’s win, Ali has earned a total of 1.9 million in live tournaments this year.
With three pro players remaining, the field was nothing short of exciting gameplay. The three-handed play lasted for almost two hours, with players alternating leads. Unfortunately, Sam got tired first concluding with J8, which failed to outdo the A10 of Klein.
He also won $161,250. This was Sam’s fifth final table this year.
The Head-Up
Klein and Perry remained for the heads-up. Although Klein led by 2:1 chips, tables turned before the final hand was dealt. After several exchanges, Perry bet 875,000, and Klein check-raised all-in for 1,975,000. Perry called using his trip aces, leaving Klein to hit the rail in second place. Klein cashed $236,500 while Perry earned his first place and $365,500.
