Event #29 of the 2012 World Series of Poker was a special event. This tournament was for senior players only and took place in a No Limit Hold’em format. The event had a buy-in of $1,000 and a record number of players registered for the event. There were 4,128 players competing and Allyn Jaffrey Shulman was able to outlast them all to claim the title win.
The win would signify the first WSOP bracelet for Shulman as well as a large payout. When Day 4 began, it was extended, and Shulman was sitting last in chips. However, this would not deter the poker player and she would battle back, double up a few times, and remain in the game.
In the end, Shulman would meet Dennis Phillips in heads up play. Shulman would find herself down in chips again, at one point with a five to one deficit, but she would continue to rally back and earn the chip lead.
The final hand would go down as follows: both players would be all in with Shulman holding the chip lead. Phillips would hold A-6 and Shulman held A-10. The flop fell Q-10-2 and Shulman would hold the lead and the 5 and J on the river were no help to Phillips so he would be eliminated in second place.
Shulman was very excited over the win and showed much grace as she congratulated everyone, but most of all Phillips. She stated that she knew Phillips was the better player but she was able to make it work.
