Amaya Gaming cannot seem to stay out of the news over the past few weeks, seemingly jumping back and forth, from positive to negative news. To get started, PokerStars soft launched then fully began online poker gaming in the state of New Jersey, quickly taking the top spot in online poker traffic for the state. It was also announced that Amaya Gaming CEO David Baazov was charged with insider trading, along with several others, and decided to take a leave of absence indefinitely. Amaya is now back in the news, after announcing they have been given renewal of approval for PokerStars and Full Tilt to operate in New Jersey.
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement renewed their approval for Amaya Gaming to be able to operate Full Tilt and PokerStars brands within the state. Initially, Amaya was given approval on September 30th of last year. PokerStars NJ was live by March 21st 2016 and Amaya has stated that since the launch, PokerStars has contributed to the growth of the real money online poker market in the state, quickly becoming a leader in online poker.
Amaya also stated that players are positively responding to the software quality, the game selection and the security plus integrity of the gaming platform. Rafi Ashkenazi, the Amaya Interim CEO, stated that while it is still early, Amaya is extremely pleased with the initial launch of PokerStars within the state of New Jersey and the positive working relationship the company has with the DGE.
Ashkenazi went on to state that Amaya hopes to continue with the early positive momentum in the market as PokerStars NJ continues to provide additional marketing and promotions. The renewal term for the latest approval is six months, the same as the initial approval granted last year.
All eyes are on PokerStars as they are seeing great success in the state, despite the negative news of insider trading with Amaya Gaming.
