In a 3-day event that saw 209 contenders, including some of the biggest names in the 2007 WSOP, the finale saw Rafi Amit taking home the bracelet,the Corum watch and $227,005 in 1st place winnings of Event #48, 2-7 Triple Draw. Amit was the only final-table opponent who had previously taken home a bracelet, and it took him only 5 short hours to claim his second.
The final table was delayed to 7pm by the previous nights action, which lasted until 5am Sunday morning. Seating and stacks began as follows:
Seat1 – Anthony Lellouche $205,000
Seat2 – Lenny Martin $133,000
Seat3 – Eugene Ji $192,000
Seat4 – Mark Bartlog $98,000
Seat5 – Rafi Amit $374,000
Seat6 – Jon Shoreman $518,000
Amit took an early lead in the second and third hand against Martin, then Shoreman. Only a few hands later, Amit took on Bartlog, eliminating his at 6th place with $27,068. Nearly an hour passed before Lellouche sent Ji home at 5th place with $41,405. Short stacked by hand 2, Martin surged to first place in mid-play, wiping out Shoreman in 4th, $57,383.
The remaining players agreed to extend a 15 minute break by 20 minutes to allow Amit to join in a $10,000 Pot Limit Omaha tournament he had also entered. Amit’s focus never wavered as he returned to eliminate Lellouche at 3rd place, $84,812.
Though stacked significantly lower, Amit went into heads-up action with Martin. Amit slowly chipped away at Martin’s lead, becoming more aggressive as play went on. The lead wavered between the two until finally Martin’s strong 8-7 low fell to Amit’s 7-6-4-3-2. Martin took 2nd and his largest prize to date, $128,120, while Amit took home his second WSOP bracelet, the Corum watch and $227,005.
