Event #17 of the 2012 World Series of Poker has finished up and the event was definitely one of the most exciting. The $10,000 Pot Limit Hold’em event had 179 players register to compete and in the end the field was narrowed down to Phil Ivey and Andy Frankenberger, both top poker pros.
Andy was working towards his second WSOP bracelet while Ivey was working to earn his ninth bracelet. Odds were on Ivey as Andy held the short stack but in the end Andy would battle back and take down the event, blocking Ivey from earning his ninth career WSOP bracelet.
When final table play began, many of the best pros would be sitting at the felt. Shaun Deeb, Hoyt Corkins, Ali Eslami, Matt Marafioti and of course Ivey, would all be in the final table of this event.
In the end, Frankenberger would eliminate Eslami in third place and he would go from being the short stack to being almost even with Ivey. Frankenberger would earn the first pot of heads up play but he would soon be in trouble as Ivey began taking every pot.
Frankenberger was not ready to give up so he would eventually battle back to owning the chip lead. On the final hand, Frankenberger would raise pre-flop with 300,000 and Ivey would call. Frankenberger would continue to bet after the flop of A-5-4 and Ivey would check and then soon move all in.
Frankenberger would call and Ivey showed 7-6 diamond suited and he was working on a straight. Frankenberger held A-J which meant he had a top pair. The turn and river were 5’s and this busted Ivey’s hand and Frankenberger was able to earn his second WSOP bracelet and Ivey would leave the tournament in a disappointing second place finish.
