After the World Series of Poker announced the official Main Event, the excitement began to increase in the poker community. Even though there was an online Main Event this year, the WSOP didn’t want to drop the chance to organize an in-person event, one which will assume a hybrid format, with the final table being played live at King’s Resort.
However, one of the official satellite locations for WSOP tournaments, Bally’s, decided to pay tribute to the Main Event by creating a series dubbed “Main Event Mania,” which will start on December 10. Main Event Mania will run through January 3.
The series will offer three Mega Satellite tournaments where players will have a chance to win a seat for the Main Event. The buy-ins required for them will be $580, $1,100, and $2,175. Winners will be able to join the Main Event that will start on December 13 on WSOP.com. The Main Event requires players to buy-in their seats for $10,000. It will have a freezeout structure, meaning no rebuys will be allowed to players.
However, the satellites won’t be the only thing offered at the Main Event Mania. Instead, there will be 32 official events, and each of them will have lucrative rewards for the winners. No-limit hold ‘em tournaments will be the most dominant type, but players can also expect offers such as Omaha, HORSE, Triple Stud, Dealer’s Choice, Omaha Hi/Lo, and even a nine-game variation.
High Roller & Main Event
Perhaps the two most distinguished tournaments will be the $2,200 High Roller and the $1,500 Main Event. The Main Event will start on Friday, January 1, and it will feature two starting flights (the second will be on January 2). All surviving players will then return on January 3 and play until they reach the final table.
Finally, all the final table will take place on Monday, January 4, when the winner will be decided.
The Main Event Mania series comes with a Player of the Series leaderboard. In other words, there will be a point system similar to those that are available in WSOPC stops. The player who collects the most points will be proclaimed Player of the Series and get a $10,000 seat for the 2021 WSOP Main Event.
COVID Protocol
Main Event Mania will take place amind the COVID-19 pandemic, so there will be strict health and safety protocols in order. Even though tables would allow eight-handed play, there will be Plexiglas dividends between players. Additionally, the property will follow all the new health and safety protocols to protect the existing players and workers from spreading the disease.
As expected, all team members and guests will be required to wear a mask, and the company will make them available to everyone. Finally, there will be frequent cleaning and sanitization of all high-traffic areas in the property, including poker tables, to minimize the risk of spreading coronavirus.
