The man behind former online poker site Seals with Clubs is set to come back to the United States this week to appear in a Nevada courtroom based on unlicensed gaming operation charges. Micon fled from Las Vegas and left the country after his home was raided by gaming agents back in February. After the raid, Micon left for Antigua and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Gaming officials had charged Micon with operating an unlicensed interactive gaming system and just recently recalled the warrant so Micon will be able to travel for court.
According to court papers, Micon operated the Bitcoin site Seals with Clubs from the 1st of March 2014 and then continued operation until February 9th of 2015. Charges were filed based on the operation of the site without the required licensing.
Micon has remained quiet on the subject over the past month, but seemed to stop his online activity back in Mid May. Once the warrant was issued for his arrest, the father of one choose to create a GoFundMe page to help raise money online for his defense fund. However, the page was shut down by GoFundMe after just over $4,000 was raised, short of the $100,000 goal.
With the gaming charges, Micon could face as much as 10 years in prison as well as $50,000 in fines. This would be the first time prosecution would take place in regards to an online poker site that used digital currency for financial transactions. Officials first learned of the bitcoin site in 2013 once a resident of Belgium made a complaint.
Based on information from Skype, agents were able to determine that the site brought in around $10,000 to $12,000 in profits every month. Agents began to observe Micon, including his home, with information gathered from the social media sites of Micon. Micon is scheduled to attend a hearing on Thursday with David Chesnoff, his defense lawyer, to also be in attendance.
