Chan Poker, endorsed by the legendary, 10-time WSOP Bracelet winner and back-to-back WSOP Main Event winner (1987-88) Johnny Chan, announced yesterday that it will be officially closing the doors of its online poker room.
Head over to ChanPoker.com and you’ll find the following notice: “All good things must come to an end… Chan Poker is closing.â€Â
A link is available on ChanPoker.com, describing the details of the closure, which state “We are sad to inform you that Chan Poker will be ceasing operation effective this Thursday, August 21, 2008. Effective immediately we will no longer be accepting deposits. On August 21 our poker clients will be disabled.â€Â
Chan Poker goes on to reassure players with a standing account balance that they have nothing to fear. “All withdraw requests will be honored and promptly processedâ€Â. Chan Poker has raised the limitations on maximum withdrawal requests to help accommodate players with large account balances in withdrawing their funds.
Though Chan Poker affirms that they will continue honoring withdraw requests for as long as is necessary, the online poker room encourages players to initiate the process as soon as possible, for their own convenience. Members of ChanPoker.com who wish to request a withdrawal may do so now by following This Link. Once all funds are withdrawn from an account, it will be immediately and closed.
Chan Poker has not given up on supplying a safe and secure venues for players to play online poker, concluding that “…we are actively seeking a partner to provide a new home that will honor your player point balances.â€Â

Online poker players aren’t the only ones being affected by the closure of Chan Poker. There are thousands of poker affiliates out there who may also be concerned.
Poker Affiliate World (PAW) sent out an email yesterday to all Chan Poker affiliates, stating that “due to Chan Poker closing down its operations, affiliates should cease promoting Chan Poker from their promotional offerings.
“Chan Poker has assured that players will not lose any money and affiliates will not lose any of their players. PAW will be working hard with Chan Poker to ensure that all payments are made and hopefully find a solution for any affiliate affected.â€Â
