Event #19 of the 2012 World Series of Poker is one of the latest events to finish up and it was Cliff Goldkind who was able to outlast the field of 2,302 to win his first WSOP bracelet. The event had a buy-in of $1,500 and was a No Limit Hold’em tournament.
Goldkind is just twenty four years old and a student in the state of Maryland. The poker player was able to defeat Kennii Nguyen in heads up play very quickly and produced one of the shorter Day 3’s of play for the 2012 WSOP.
The final day of play saw 17 players returning and the day would quickly wind down to just Nguyen and Goldkind. A few notables who exited on the last day of play and they were: Barry Shulman, Jason Wheeler, David Peters and Philippe Boucher. Goldkind would have a large chip lead over Nguyen and he would continue to gain chips until the dinner break. At this time, Goldkind would hold 9,214,000 to Nguyen’s 1,145,000 stack.
The dinner break was unnecessary as when the two came back to the table, it would take just one hand for Goldkind to earn the win. On the final hand, Nguyen would go all in with K-J and Goldkind would call holding pocket sixes. The board would fall 2-5-2-10-A and Nguyen would have to surrender his chips to Goldkind. Goldkind was very excited about the win and as soon as he earned the winning hand, he jumped up and celebrated with his family and friends.
