Just a few days ago, the state of Florida passed a bill which banned all adult gaming options in the state. The bill listed ‘internet cafes’ and ‘adult gaming arcades’ as part of the banned gaming options and once the bill was signed into law last week by Governor Rick Scott, all gaming establishments of this type were expected to close.
On Friday we shared with you a story that showed one such establishment, the Luxxor 777, has yet to close up shop and has not adhered to the new law, while other businesses have either closed or are no longer offering their gaming services for prizes.
We have now learned that gamblers in the state will no longer have access to subscription-based poker sites that are completely legal in the US already. The most notable of these is ClubWPT.com, and as of Friday the site has stopped serving players in the state thanks to the new law.
On Friday, any resident of Florida who had a subscription to the ClubWPT.com site received an email stating that the site will no longer be able to offer them tournaments that pay cash prizes because of the newly-enacted law.
Players then began to contact the customer support team of ClubWPT so they could find out more information. The players were simply told that their paid memberships would be refunded of the full subscription amount.
ClubWPT made the move to make sure they were not breaking the new law in the state. Although the law itself was created to cut down on sweepstakes businesses, as well as adult gaming arcades, the management at ClubWPT is taking full precautions to assure themselves of no legal troubles that may arise from them continuing to take Florida poker players.
