Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling Trying to Stop iPoker Momentum in Pennsylvania

DE gamblingAs the state of Pennsylvania moves closer to legalizing online poker, the Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling has increased their efforts to try and stop legalization of iPoker in the state. Just yesterday we reported on two different polls, one which showed residents of Pennsylvania in favor of online gaming while the other showed Pennsylvanians are not comfortable with the option. Of course the negative poll was pushed by the Coalition and now it seems the group has moved forward with their efforts, sending out anti-internet propaganda covering the subject of poker.

According to a report at CardPlayer, a Poker Players Alliance representative has stated that the Coalition is sending out mailers to residents in Pennsylvania to try and stop iPoker from moving forward in the state. The propaganda was sent out as bulk mail and shows information from the poll that states residents of Pennsylvania do not want to see online poker legalized in their area.

The poll, which has since been discredited, claims that almost 75% of state residents are against any regulation of online gaming. There are currently 3 online poker bills on the table in the state, all of which would legalize the option. There is also one bill that has been introduced that would ban the option.

Rich Muny posted a picture of the mailer on Twitter which showed the front and back of the piece. The addressed side says: “We know a bad idea when we see it. Stop Internet Gambling Before It Starts. A number for Representative Sue Helm is them posted on the mailer, asking residents to tell Helm they are opposed to online gambling.

On the other side of the mailer, it reads that Pennsylvanians are against online gambling, with 73% of those surveyed opposed and 68% understand that online gambling is completely different from traditional gaming. The mailer then says that voters are 3x more likely to vote against a legislator who is in support of online gambling. The piece then gives readers the address to the StopInternetGambling site to see more information on Pennsylvania gaming and how individuals are against the option.

What the mailer fails to mention is that anyone interested in online poker or casino games can use unregulated sites based offshores. Proponents of online poker gaming would like to see the state legalize and regulate the option so players can be safe and the state can benefit from revenues earned.
