A thread was recently created on the Two Plus Two poker forums which is calling for poker pro Annie Duke to be banned from playing in the World Series of Poker. A small group of players feel as though Duke’s involvement with Ultimate Bet as well as the Epic Poker League is enough to see her banned from the WSOP. However, poker pros do not feel the same way.
PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu has spoke out against the talk of Annie Duke being banned from the WSOP. Negreanu feels as though the WSOP should have the right to decide if they want to ban anyone. Negreanu spoke with PokerListings.com on the subject and he stated:
“She sucks so that’s good for the game but I don’t have any problem with Annie Duke playing the WSOP. The WSOP is a private entity so they have the right to ban anyone for whatever reason they want. But personally I would never ban anyone from the WSOP unless they were cheating.”
It was surprising that Negreanu felt this way as he and Duke are not the best of friends. The two apparently have a long standing feud that goes back many years. They both even competed in the $5k Stud event just a few days ago and it was not reported that any confrontation took place.
This instance has made many players consider what the WSOP should consider as grounds for banning from their yearly series. According to Poker Listings, it also raises the question as to what level of control the WSOP should have over the players that compete in the events. It will be interesting to see if the WSOP makes any changes next year involving the rules for player participation.
