Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson is a legend in the poker industry. The ten time World Series of Poker bracelet winner has been a staple in the game for decades and has battled his way through many a poker field. But the game of poker has not been Brunson’s only challenge in life. The pro has suffered from cancer three times previous and has now been diagnosed yet again with a form of cancer.
Brunson announced this past Tuesday via his Twitter account that he has been diagnosed with a treatable cancer. Brunson stated on his Twitter account: “It was malignant. 4 times I have heard that in my life. Chilling way to start the day. Squamas cell cancer, nothing to worry about. #yeahright.”
Brunson’s Twitter account was then bombarded with well wishes from fellow pros and fans, supporting him with the latest news. After several messages were placed on his Twitter account, Brunson posted: “Tx 4 the support about the cancer. It’s a slow growth type that is usually ok But it’s something you had rather not hear. #beentheredonethat.”
The type of cancer Brunson has is called Squamous-cell cancer and can occur in several different places in the body. The most common area for the cancer to occur is the skin. Squamous-cell cancer is the second most common form of cancer found in the skin. This type of cancer has around 200,000 cases each year and is highly treatable.
In Brunson’s case, it seems as though he will be part of the treatable statistic. Brunson had tweeted that the cancer had been removed. As long as the cancer does not spread, then Brunson should be clear of the cancer, however, the pro has not been forthcoming with every detail in his case. Hopefully the coast is clear for Brunson and he can continue to live a long and happy life, hitting the poker tables and just enjoying his everyday life!
