The European Championship of Online Poker (ECOOP), hosted by Titan Poker on the iPoker Network, came to a close last week, crowning a rookie champion in the $1,000,000 main event. Luke Cahill of Manchester pocketed the first place winning of $220,000.Cahill traversed a field of 992 players competing in the $1,060 No Limit Texas Hold’em freezeout event to take first place in the 12-hour tournament, triumphing as the champion of the 10-day ECOOP series.
Luke’s experience in online poker play has been primarily cash games, having competed in only one live tournament. “Recently I decided to try playing tournaments.” Cahill confessed, “I only heard about the ECOOP Main Event the day before.
“I’ve played only one live tournament before and busted out on the first day,” Cahill revealed. Then, referring to his normal cash game play, he continued, “I play a few hours at a time. I play until bored, unless it’s a tournament when I can play for twelve hours straight.”
The Manchester native seemed to have no problem staying in the tournament for such a long period of time. “I was awake all night but I wasn’t as tired as I should have been towards the end.”
The online poker champion has decided to devote more time to poker tournaments and has high hopes for winning a satellite event to a major, land-based poker event.
