Saturday’s Event #46, $1,000 Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo, saw Tom Schneider wins the first double bracelet in the 2007 World Series of Poker, lasting only a little more than four hours. Schneider’s first victory came week’s
earlier at Event #5, $2,500 Omaha/Stud Hi/Lo. Schneider entered both events with the largest stack and ended both as champion. Event #46 began as follows:
Seat1 – Hoyt Verner $129,000
Seat2 – Scotty Nguyen $203,000
Seat3 – Hieu “Tony” Ma $60,000
Seat4 – Saundra Taylor $202,000
Seat5 – Tom Schneider $275,000
Seat6 – Tommy Hang $110,000
Seat7 – Miguel de la Cruz $253,000
Seat8 – Woody Deck $110,000
Miguel de la Cruz knocked Woody Deck out early on, leaving the table at 8th place with $11,063. Tommy Hang fell next at the hand of Tom Schneider, ending at 7th place with $14,711. Hieu “Tony” Ma soon followed in 6th with $19,170. Ma had a good run with several all-in wagers, only to be eliminated by Nguyen’s rolled-up 4’s, which became a full house. Less than an hour later, Saundra Taylor’s hopes were extinguished by Verner, finishing 5th with $24,619.
Four players remaining, Nguyen and de la Cruz were knocked out in back to back hands. Schneider claimed several large pots off de la Cruz just before Hoyt claimed Nguyen’s remaining chips. Nguyen, winner of the 1998 WSOP Main Event, finished in 4th with $31,610. Miguel de la Cruz fell in the very next hand to Schneider, finishing 3rd with $51,670.
Nearly even in chips, Hoyt and Schneider began heads-up play, lasting just over an hour. On the 5th street of the final hand, the remainder of Verner’s chips went in, immediately followed by a pair of King’s showing for Schneider. With only a pair of 7’s, Verner took 2nd place at $82,064.
Schneider’s victory brought him a 1st place bracelet and $147,713.
