The New York Post is reporting this morning that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has completed a raid operation on Madison Avenue and the surrounding area and arrested several people who are supposedly connected to the Russian mob. During the raid, FBI agents entered an art gallery located on Madison Avenue as well as homes and businesses in the area, taking in a few dozen suspects.
According to officials, the group were taken into custody after the 7:30 am raid and the art gallery was begin run by the suspect believed to be the main support behind the illegal gambling ring. The operation consisted of illegal poker games as well sports betting opportunities. The suspects who were arrested in this case will be seen in court today in Manhattan.
Across the United States, officials are trying to break up any organized crime syndicates, particularly the Russian mob. The group is known for hosting high stakes poker games which are played by top names in sports, celebrities as well as high profile businessmen. According to officials, the high profile poker games were part of money laundering scheme and a cover so they could siphon money for the mob.
The arrests were not just subject to New York. According to the report by the New York Post, other arrests were made across the country including Miami and Los Angeles. Apparently the FBI had increased the scope of investigation and was trying to take down several factions at once. The report also stated that prosecutors should be releasing details of the case later today.
It will be interesting to see how many people have been arrested as part of this illegal operation as well as if the names of the high profile people involved are released. At this time, officials have yet to release this information but it most likely will not stay secret for long.
