Full Tilt Poker will add casino games to its platform in the near future. This will be done in an attempt to distinguish the Full Tilt brand from its sister site PokerStars. Both brands are under the Rational Group umbrella. There will be no casino games at PokerStars, although players may easily move money between the two sites.
PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker are the only major brands that do not offer any casino games at this time. Some of this may be attributed to the fact both sites accepted U.S. players for many years. There was a belief that sites that offered only poker would be immune from U.S. law enforcement using the skill argument. That turned out to be a false hope.
Experienced players prefer sites that do not offer casino games as they are a temptation that less serious players may succumb to and that takes poker money out of the economy. Players that tilt prefer poker only sites as well, though presumably players will be able to opt out of casino games upon request.
PokerStars has applied to be the software supplier for Resorts in New Jersey. Resorts is the only Atlantic City casino that partnered with a site without a known casino software partner. Casino games are thought to be substantially more profitable than poker. This addition of casino software to Rational Group’s portfolio would help it compete in New Jersey if the company receives a license. It will also make the company more competitive as online gambling expands in the United States.
