Global Poker Index has been actively working on figuring out who will be the next Player of the Year (POY). They release fresh and updated lists of the leading players every week using a special formula to determine players’ success for the previous period.
In fact, there are two active lists. One of them focuses on players’ success over the last six half-years, and it is considered the overall top list for all active poker players. The second list, which is more important for us now, is the list of the players who are competing for the Player of the Year Race.
2019 Player of the Year List by Global Poker Index
The current leader is Sean Winter, who has been on No. 1 for more than seven weeks straight. In fact, he has been first for the biggest part of the year. The first 19 weeks or 2019 were also his, but then he was dethroned for some time, only to return up there once again. According to Global Poker Index’s algorithm, Winter’s POY score is 3425.57.
The next poker player who is right behind him is Rainer Kempe, who lacks 23 points to get to first place. In other words, Kempe has 3402.80 points at the moment.
Third place belongs to Stephen Chidwick, who has been doing pretty good in the last couple of years, and he has managed to make a total of 3385.85 points. Simply put, he is not that far away from first place either. All it takes is that he makes one big win in order to get a point boost and overtake Winter and Kempe.
Sam Greenwood is fourth with 3294.67 points. He probably doesn’t have any real chances to hope for first place, but anything is possible in the game of poker.
Other players that are on the top 10 list include Bryn Kenney (3254.17), Shannon Shorr (3251.53), James Romero (3108.07), Manig Loeser (3105.99), Ali Imsirovic (3040.60), and Danny Tang (2993.56).
