Hevad Khan is one of the youngest players ever to sign with PokerStars. He also placed 6th in the 2007 World Series of Poker and became a millionaire, but that is not what makes him different. What makes him unique is that Khan can successfully play 40 online poker tournaments at the same time, which no one has ever been able to accomplish. Online poker rooms have no problem with how many tournaments or cash games a player chooses to enter, so this works to Khans advantage. Many good players can play two or three tables at a time and increase their chance of profit, but most players cannot concentrate on more than one table. This is not proving to be the case with Khan. “When I first started, I would play anywhere from four to six tables on a meager $80 bankroll,” Khan said. “Then I started adding 12 tables, then I tried 18 and 24 and didn’t notice any sizable differences. Before I knew it I was handling over 30.”
Khan has realized that his ability to multitask comes from his gaming background. He played Starcraft which is a real-time strategy game, that a player must pay close attention to his surroundings and be able to handle several things at one time. About playing Khan says:†You really had to balance your time and pick up strategies that would make things more efficient.I found that these skills directly translated into poker, where you could simplify a lot of the decisions and have success with it.”
A standard computer monitor is really not capable of holding 40 tournaments at one time, so Khan made a layering system. It divides the screen into grids and each grid can hold about 10 tournaments making it easier for Khan to see his tables. Khan believes that he could play 50 tables with no problem but 43 single-table tournaments is his record.
At one point the poker sites believed that Khan’s tables were being played by a computer program so they locked in his screen name. Khan had to videotape himself playing 40 tournaments and send it to the companies so that they would believe it was him. Once the companies received the tapes they cleared his name and gave him access to his winnings.
Khan has proved that he is a smart player and good under pressure. Now with his recent win in the WSOP and his new sponsorship deal, we will be learning a lot more about him and his unique talents.
