It was back in early December that Raymond Lesniak, a Senator of New Jersey, introduced a measure that would allow for the state to allow online gambling on an international level. The bill was created to push the online gambling industry in the state to the next level by licensing foreign casinos. This bill was not passed into legislation and has now been reintroduced.
A recent report by USPoker states that GamblingCompliance Ltd’s Chris Krafcik reported that Lesniak has reintroduced the measure into legislation. If the measure is passed, the state would be able to license operators and give them the ability to provide restricted online wagering options on an international level based on certain circumstances. The bill has been changed as well and the previous sports betting provisions have been removed.
In essence, the bill would see New Jersey offering licenses to casinos in foreign countries and these countries must have their servers located in Atlantic City. The foreign operators would only be able to provide online gaming to players located offshores. State licensed casinos would also be able to provide gaming options online to foreign players. This would place the state at the next level of online gaming.
Operators located offshores would need to apply for a license but would only be granted a license if online gaming is legalized in the physical location. Tax laws of the jurisdiction of service must also be adhered to and technology must be used to be able to effectively verify the location of each player physically.
When Lesniak first introduced the iGaming bill, he stated that he felt the option would make the state a hub for the gaming industry on an international level. The plan was for the state to attract international gaming companies so that jobs would be created, revenues would be brought in and the economy would expand.
