The 2012 World Series of Poker continues and the latest event to finish up is Event #10 the $5,000 Seven Card Stud tournament. The event had a small field of players, just 145, but what the tournament lacked in numbers it made up for in experience. The field was full of pro players, most of which own a WSOP bracelet. This tournament would be tough but in the end it was John Monnette who earned his second WSOP bracelet.
When final table play began, it was Monnette who held the chip lead with 547,000 in his stack. The closest player had just over 400,000 so Monnette held a healthy lead which helped him win the tournament.
Monnette would lose his chip lead within two hours of play but he still held a healthy 600,000 in chips. When three handed play began it would be Monnette, Huu Vinh and Timothy Finne left in the competition.
Once three handed play began, Monnette would take over. He earned a nice chunk of Vinh’s stack and then some from Finne which put him over one million in chips. Once Finne was down to his last chips he went all in and Vinh called. Finne had the possibility of a flush and a straight on fifth and sixth streets but he missed on seventh and was out of the competition in third place.
Monnette soon gained a 6 to 1 chip lead and heads up play would take less than an half an hour. On the final hand, Vinh went all in on the pre-flop with Q-8-3 and Monnette had him covered in chips so he called holding A-Q-J. both players came up with nothing on fourth street and Monnette earned a Jack on fifth to give him the lead. Nothing else showed up on the board and Monnette was able to earn the win as well as the gold bracelet!
