The 2009 World Series of Poker Europe has seen one event completed and that event was one for the record books. John-Paul ‘J.P.’ Kelly has become the first English player to win a WSOPE bracelet in London.
Kelly is only twenty three years old and most of the time he plays poker online. Kelly is from the UK and managed to outlast 607 players to take the win in the 1,000 plus 75 GBP No Limit Hold’em event. Kelly earned 136,803 GBP for the win.
However this is not Kelly’s first bracelet. He won the $1,500 Pot Limit Hold’em event back in June in Las Vegas for just over $194,000. Kelly commented: “I think the experience helped a lot. I sat back and waited and that was the way to play…I didn’t win a hand for the first 40 minutes (at the final table). But I was patient and picked my spots.â€Â
Kelly stated that though the win in Vegas was larger the WSOPE win “means a lot. It’s hard to compare them. They are quite different. This is better in some ways because there are a lot more of my friends around. So I look forward to celebrating.â€Â
