Event #48 of the World Series of Poker finished up a few days ago and it was Kenny Hsiung who earned the first place win. The tournament was a $3,000 Limit Hold’em tournament and had a small field of 247 players competing. The tournament would take three days to complete and after forty eight hours of play, Hsiung would have his gold bracelet.
On day three, it would take twelve hours before heads up play would begin. The day had already been a long one and Hsiung and Robert Hwang would have to endure two more hours before the event would be over. Hwang held a giant chip lead when heads up play began, with 1,725,000 to 500,000. However, Hsiung would battle back and the lead would exchange several times before the tournament would be over.
Hsiung would finally take the lead and then begin to pull away to work toward earning his first WSOP gold bracelet. Hsiung has cashed out a few times in past WSOP events but this would be the first time he has earned the gold. After two hours of heads up play, the final hand would go down.
Hsiung would raise on the button and Hwang would call. The flop would fall J-7-8 and Hwang would then check. Hsiung would bet and Hwang would raise. Hsiung then re-raised and Hwang would call. A Queen would appear on the turn and then Hwang would go all in and receive a call from Hsiung.
Hwang showed 6-5 and Hsiung would hold K-9 with a Queen coming on the river, Hsiung would be the champion of the event!
