In November, it was announced that New Jersey State Senator Raymond Lesniak was planning on creating a bill that would put the state in the forefront of online gambling in the United States. Lesniak decided to open the market to players around the world with a new bill that would allow for international companies to operate in the state. Lesniak has now added a caveat to the new bill that would call for the international companies to have a physical location within Atlantic City.
When the bill was first mentioned, the Division of Gaming Enforcement in New Jersey would be allowed to grant a license to any company that offered online gambling to players located in a foreign company. Late last week, Lesniak decided to update the bill to require such operations to be located in Atlantic City.
With the new addition to the bill, Lesniak stated that the new requirement will allow companies the opportunity to utilize the infrastructure that is already in place at casinos located in Atlantic City as well as with the online operations. Companies would have to use a physical location as well as keep equipment and have personnel located in Atlantic City in a secured facility.
The firms located outside of the US would have to complete the licensing process created by the state of New Jersey and then with approval, the firms would have the option to provide gambling. The offering would only be available to players who are currently involved with the operator and the players would not be allowed to mix with the current gambling market located in the state.
The State Senator stated: “The Atlantic City casino industry is well regulated and highly respected, which gives us an advantage. We can capitalize on our strengths and attract business to build and invest in our state. We shouldn’t allow these opportunities to migrate overseas to other countries.”
