LIPS or The Ladies International Poker Series made its highly anticipated return this year, kicking things off with the 2021 Nevada State Ladies Poker Championship. The event ran through April 15-18th in Las Vegas’s South Point Casino Poker Room.
The Ladies International Poker Series
After being gone for over a year, the ladies of Poker were excited to be back to the poker tables and surrounded by their friends. This was the first LIPS event hosted since the pandemic began, and it was a huge success.
A total of 1278 ladies entered and competed in the four-day-long poker extravaganza, with a cool $201,235 offered up as the prize pool. The Series was broken down into seven individual events over four days.
The NV State Championship Main Event
The main event of the series was the $275 buy-in Nevada State Ladies Poker Championship, which took place over two days and had a record field of 317 players with a collected prize pool worth nearly $75,000 that was split up among the top 45 players.
The LIPS and the Nevada state ladies poker Championship main event was won by Milella Pedretti. She finished on top out of the record-breaking 317 participants. As a result, Pedretti scored the biggest payday of her career, netting nearly $12,000.
Milella Pedretti Wins With ICM Deal
Generously Milella Pedretti agreed to a three-way ICM deal. The ICM deal or independent chip model is a mathematical model that calculates the overall equity in the tournament. In other words, a player’s stacks size alone determines how often players will finish and their respective positions.
The ICM deal resulted in the second-place player Samantha Holmes winning a cash prize of just over $10,000. The third-place participant Kristen Deardorff took home nearly $9,000 in cash.
Pedretti was quoted telling Review Journal, “it’s so nice to play with women, to come out to this event and see all the support of women in poker, and it’s just been great and to come out on top was just fantastic.”
Last Words About the Ladies International Poker Series
Although LIPS’ primary focus is on empowering women in poker, the organization also hosts tournaments where everyone is welcome regardless of gender. For instance, during this year’s Nevada State Championship, male players participated in various events, including the $75 Buy in Omaha-Holics, the Charity Tag Team Switch, and the Poker Friends Forever Deep Stack.
LIPS was established in 2004 by Lupe Soto, a member of the Women in Poker Hall of Fame. Soto started LIPS to create a stronger community of female poker players. Also, the organization helps female players enhance their game by offering Education and Training through online live tournaments and social activities. She currently still plays an active role in the organization serving as the tours CEO.
The LIPS tours have been creating opportunities for ladies to play Poker for the past 17 years. The Nevada state ladies Championship is celebrating its 11th year, and it seems they both have a strong future ahead as the ladies of Poker continue to establish their place in the world of Poker.
