The would be winner placed a complaint with the Gaming Inspection and CO-Ordination Bureau in Macau. The agency ruled that the jackpot win was to much or “unreasonable” given the maximum prize from the slot machine was supposed to be $5,771.
This is not however the final ruling, further investigations will commence, and a final ruling, pending research results will be made.
An earlier jackpot dispute at the Sands Casino in Macau involved a 16 year old girl from Hong Kong winning a HK$95,000 slot machine jackpot. The casino refused to pay out this jackpot stating the obvious, the girl was to young to legally gamble in the first place.
After a complaint was made, the casino was reprimanded for allowing the minor access to the slots in the first place, and the winnings were ordered to be paid to the girls mom.
“We have decided that the money must be paid, not to the child, but to her mother,” the bureau’s director Manuel Joaquim das Neves, was quoted as saying by the South China Morning Post.
