The 2018 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event has come to an end, with 582 players paying the $10,300 buy-in to compete. After six days of tournament action, it was Maria Lampropulos of Argentina who earned the first-place win, taking home just over $1 million in prize money and a Platinum Pass worth $30,000.
The win marked only the second time that Maria had earned a seven-figure payday within her career. With the win, she also became the first female to win the Main Event in the thirteen-year history of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.
Once the event narrowed down to the final table, Maria would be sitting third in chips. Shawn Buchanan and Adrian Mateos were first and second based on chip count. It wouldn’t be long before the first player was eliminated from the final table.
Christian Rudolph would be eliminated in 6th place after going all in with A-8. He was called by Maria who held pocket sixes. Maria earned a full house on the river to secure the hand and eliminate the first player from the final table. Eliminations would continue until only three remained.
Once three-handed play began, it would take close to four hours before the heads-up round would begin. Koray Aldemir, Shawn Buchanan and Maria were the three remaining players, duking it out for the first-place win. Eventually, Maria would double up via Aldemir and then the pro would be eliminated after going up against Buchanan. This would leave Maria and Buchanan in heads-up play.
Buchanan started with the chip lead, but Maria would slowly grind away until she came away with the lead, 3 to 1. In the end, Maria would go all-in and Buchanan would call. Maria held 10-7 against Buchanan’s K-5. The board fell 10-9-5-2-9 giving Maria the title win.
For her efforts, Maria would take home $1,081,000 and the bonus of a $30,000 Platinum Pass. This pass provides Maria with an entry into the $25,000 PokerStars Players Championship set for January 2019.
