MGM Resorts International made the announcement yesterday that they are planning to launch an online casino and poker gaming platform in New Jersey. The Nevada-based brand will be operated a MGM-branded gaming site beginning later on this year within the state.
The new MGM site will be known as the playMGM platform and will be powered by GVC, an online casino technology supplier based on the Isle of Man. Gaming will only be open to players located in the state of New Jersey with an exact date for the launch unknown.
In a press release associated with the announcement, MGM stated that the announcement marks a strengthening of the relationship between the companies and is the first time ever that the iconic brand known as MGM will be offering real money casino and poker offerings online.
MGM is currently licensed to offer online poker within the state of Nevada but have yet to produce an iPoker product. Currently, GVC operates the online gaming product of the Borgata in New Jersey and MGM is 100% control of the gaming venue. When online gaming was first offered by the Borgata via GVC in 2013, MGM only held 50% stake within the gaming venue. However, by August 2016, MGM took 100% control of the flagship casino of Atlantic City.
MGM Resorts Chief Operating Officer Corey Sanders commented on the announcement, stating that it is a ‘historic moment’ for the company and GVC has been a first rate partner, with the company excited at the possibilities of extending their partnership as regulated markets open up within the United States.
According to the press release, the new playMGM platform will include more than 300 casino games with slot titles and table games. Tournament and cash game poker will also be included. It seems players will also find the online option offers a connection to the M Life rewards program of MGM though the actual details are unknown.
