Event #45 of the World Series of Poker was the $50,000 Poker Players Championship and with a buy-in so large, the event only saw the best of the best competing. Only 108 players registered to compete in the five day tournament and some of the best players in the world were eliminated as Michael Mizrachi took down the first place win.
Mizrachi started off final table play with excitement as he took out Bill Chen and Bruno Fitoussi in No Limit Hold’em. This was only the third hand of play. A few hands later, in Pot Limit Omaha, Mizrachi would go head to head with Stephen Chidwick and would take him out. Chidwick would go al in with K-K-5-4 and Mizrachi would call with A-4-8-2 on a board of 8-8-2-3. Mizrachi had a full house and a 3 on the river was no help for Chidwick who would be the next player eliminated.
Mizrachi would take a break for the next elimination as Andy Bloch took out Roland Israelashvili. Next to go was Luke Schwartz as he was eliminated by Chris Klodnicki. With the pot win, Klodnicki would take the chip lead, but not for long.
Bloch was the next to go and this would leave Klodnicki and Mizrachi in heads up play. Mizrachi had earned more chips over the past few hands and now he held the chip lead 10.5 million to 5. 7 million. Mizrachi wanted the win and he played aggressively to earn the title. It would not be long before his chip lead would equal a takedown.
On the final hand, the players were in Omaha 8. Klodnicki went all in preflop and was called by Mizrachi. Klodnicki held A-J-9-2 and Mizrachi showed Q-J-9-8. The board ran 10-10-7-6-A and Mizrachi claimed the hand and the title win!
