The EPT Barcelona event has finished up and in the end Mikalai Pobal was able to upset Ilari Sahamies by taking the first place win. Pobal was able to outlast a tough final table and then defeat high stakes pro Sahamies in heads up play. Pobal was able to earn over €1,007,550 for the first place win.
The final table took twelve hours to complete and several players fell just short of claiming the first place prize. Sahamies, of course, made it to second place while Joni Jouhkimainen and John Juanda also fell short.
Jouhkimainen and Juanda were the two short stacked players when the day began. Juanda was the first to bust the final table and took his entire chip stack all in with pocket fives against Samuel Rodriguez’s A-5 and ended up out early when eights and sevens hit the board.
Jouhkimainen managed to double up against Rodriguez and then soon began to hold the chip lead by the time four handed play began. Once three handed play began, Jouhkimainen held about 75% of the chops in play. He was the favorite to win by this point but Sahamies and Pobal were not ready to give up and they slowly chipped away at his stack. Pobal would eventually bust Jouhkimainen in third and then move on to earn his largest cash out ever in live game play.
