After a one year hiatus, it has been announced that the NBC Heads-Up Championship will be back in action for 2013. The series ran for a total of seven years before being pulled off the air in 2011. The event will now be back starting on January 24th to the 26th at Caesars Palace.
The announcement was made by the TV production company yesterday via Twitter and many fans of the event are already excited about the return of the popular televised event. The show ran from 2005 to 2011 but did not return for 2012. The event will now be back and will have a $20k buy-in and the event is mostly invitation only but a few seats are left for winners of various satellites.
The event will feature the best of the best in the poker industry as well as celebrities, going head to head to see who can outlast the other. The list for the event has yet to be announced and a television schedule has also not been announced. However, it is expected that a press release will be sent out soon with more details on the event.
The event takes place in 64 entry single-elimination format until the final two face off. When the first round matches take place, players will be selected at random to their opponents at a drawing party that usually takes place the night before the tournament is scheduled to begin. The championship round consists of a best of three match up and then the winner is crowned.
Last time the event was held, in 2011, it was Eric Seidel who defeated Chris Moneymaker to earn the win. Seidel worked hard for the win, after losing to Annie Duke in 2010. It will be interesting to see which pros and celebrities will be invited to compete in the event and who will be the last player standing!
